When returning back to work full time, but not at full
strength, I found myself falling back into the same patterns that I had
established so firmly in the past. Even though I had made a renewed commitment
to myself to put my health first, I put my work first again, and started to
backtrack. First, I skipped my yoga, then vitamins became an afterthought and
my diet went back to either not enough food or unbalanced meals eaten in a
hurry. I went back to caffeine and sugary snacks to give me energy, when I was
really just exhausted and needed rest.
Then, came the fever. It had been a few days and I had
started to think I was going to make it one whole week without one!!!
At first, I gave myself a really hard time for failing so soon,
but then I realized that change takes time. I remembered that I really need to
give myself a break, it is not a complete failure, but a time to hit the
refresh button. Yes, my commitment to my work is extremely important, but if I
have a relapse – then I will not be able to work at all.
So, I hit the refresh button. I rested, focused on my family
and reestablished my commitment to health.
I need to be more focused on the day to day and relearn how
to fit all of my needs into a busy schedule – maybe hitting the refresh button
frequently is something I will need to do more often.
